Area golfers place at Class B Classic golf meet

MITCHELL – Some of the state’s top golfers took advantage of their first opportunity to compete this season during the Class B Classic golf meet at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Platte-Geddes won the boys’ division behind medalist Brody Boltjes who fired a 72. Howard won the girls’ team crown. Kelsey Morrison of White River was the medalist with a 91. Miller’s Jayce Pugh was second with a 93.

Luke Peterson of Ipswich was sixth in the boys’ division, Jett Becker of Aberdeen Christian was tenth, and Tray Hettick of Selby was 12th.

“It was good to get some competition, obviously it’s been a couple of years,” said Christian Coach David Rohrbach. “It wasn’t a bad meet for the first one.”

Rohrbach said Becker had a decent day, especially for the first meet of the season. Becker finished with an 85.

“I thought it was a pretty solid round,” Rohrbach said. “He obviously he thinks he can do better, but at the same time he was pretty pleased with his round for being the first golf tournament of the year.”

Zeke Becker shot a 98 for the Knights.

“I know he golfed a lot last summer. He’s actually improved quite a bit,” Rohrbach said. “He started off well, but had a few holes where he struggled a bit. He’d like to have a few holes back, but for the first time, not a bad day.”

Rohrbach said there were some pretty low scores for the opening meet. He said the Knights can take some positives away from their initial action.

“You get the nerves out right away. You start the year off with a very competitive high-quality meet on a good solid course,” Rohrbach said. “Definitely something to build off of.”
