Athletes overcome conditions at Groton Invitational

GROTON - Area athletes battled the elements and each other during the Groton Invitational track and field meet on Tuesday. Despite a steady drizzle for most of the meet, athletes turned in solid performances. "It’s hard to compete in the cold and in the rain, but just it’s one of those things. It’s a part of track, you’re outside. You have to deal with those kind of things," said Langford Area's Kade Larson, who won the triple jump and also ran on two winning relays. "The wind is part of it, too. Sometimes you get the wind at your back, sometimes you get it at you. You learn to compete with it." Larson said there's a bit of a difference competing in a relay with three other teammates compared to individual events. "They both have their pressures," Larson said, "but I think when you’re running a relay you have three people who are right there competing with you so it’s on all four of your shoulders."
