Aberdeen Central is well represented among this week’s Class AA track and field leaders despite having limited opportunities so far this spring.
Sam Rohlfs can be found in five different events. The junior has the top distances so far in the long jump and triple jump. He is also sixth in the 200-meter dash, tied for eighth in the 100-meter dash, and is a member of the 800-meter relay team which has the third best time.
Distance runners Josh Martin and Daniel Street are also near the top in multiple events. Martin is second in the 1,600-meter and third in the 3,200-meter, while Street is fifth in both races. Both runners are part of the 3,200-meter relay squad which has the sixth fastest time.
In the girls’ division, Central’s Makenna Glanzer is tied for fifth in the pole vault and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles. Abby Kopecky is second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, and Melanie Jacobs is sixth in the 800-meter run. Both are members of the 1,600-meter relay team which has the second fastest time. In all, the Golden Eagles have four relay teams among the state leaders.
