
A trio of Aberdeen boys’ basketball players have earned all-state recognition announced by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.
Aberdeen Christian’s Malek Wieker and Brent Ekanger were both honored after helping lead the Knights to a runner-up finish in this year’s State B tournament. Wieker, a sophomore, was named to the Class B second-team. He averaged 13 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Ekanger, a senior, was a Class B third-team selection. He averaged 10.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Aberdeen Roncalli’s Gray Imbery was named to the third-team in Class A. The senior averaged 18.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He will be playing at Dakota Wesleyan next season.
Juron Adams of Tiospa Zina was also on the third team for Class A. The junior averaged 24 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. He also had 93 steals.
Players of the Year were Matthew Mors of Yankton in Class AA, Paul Bruns of Dakota Valley in Class A, and Kalen Garry of De Smet in Class B.

CLASS B
First team: Kalen Garry (Jr.) of De Smet (23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), Connor Libis (Sr.) of Dell Rapids St. Mary (23.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2,731 career points), Joe Sayler (So.) of White River (29.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists), Tyce Ortman (Sr.) of Canistota (17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists), Gradee Sherman (Sr.) of Viborg-Hurley (21.9 points, 12.4 rebounds), and Sam Aslesen (Sr.) of Howard (19.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists).
Second team: Tisyn Spader (Sr.) of Howard (17.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists), Rett Osthus (Jr.) of De Smet (10.1 points, 3 rebounds, 4.8 assists), Matthew Nibbe (Sr.) of Elkton-Lake Benton (16.1 points, 7.9 rebounds), Chase Merrill (Sr.) of Canistota (17.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists), Kelby VanDerWerff (Sr.) of Platte-Geddes (16.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 40 blocks), and Malek Wieker (So.) of Aberdeen Christian (13 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists).
Third team: Brent Wentland (Sr.) of Corsica-Stickney (19.8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists), Brent Ekanger (Sr.) of Aberdeen Christian (10.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists), Jacob Messmer (Sr.) of Wessington Springs 19.1 points, 11.1 rebounds), Caden Foxley (Jr.) of Platte-Geddes (16.3 points, 11 rebounds, 51 blocks), Grant Luikens (Jr.) of Potter County (20.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 57 steals), and Daniel Mitchell (Fr.) of Gregory (26.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 63 blocks).
Player of the Year: Kalen Garry of De Smet.
Libis was a first-team selection in 2019 and 2020, Garry was first team in 2020 and second team in 2019, Ortman, Sherman and VanDerWerff were on the third team last year.
CLASS A
First team: Paul Bruns (Sr.) of Dakota Valley (27.9 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 53 steals), Jakob Dobney (Sr.) of Vermillion (20.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 69 steals), Brady Fritz (Sr.) of Winner (26.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.5. assists, 47 steals), Isaac Bruns (So.) of Dakota Valley (22.8 points, 6.3 rebounds), Oliver Vincent (So.) of Sioux Valley (20.8 points, 3.9 assists, 51 steals), and Colin Rentz (Sr.) of Dell Rapids (17 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 54 steals).
Second team: Tash Lunday (Jr.) of Flandreau (21.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists), Xavier Van Beek (Sr.) of Sioux Falls Christian (16 points, 3 assists), Cael Lundin (Jr.) of Tea Area (18.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists), Noah Van Donkersgoed (Sr.) of Sioux Falls Christian (16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 39 blocks), Drayton Priebe (Sr.) of Chamberlain (18.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4 assists), and Kelton Vincent (Sr.) of Sioux Valley (15.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 57 steals).
Third team: Jace Kelley (Sr.) of Custer (23.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists), Dillon Gestring (Sr.) of Vermillion (13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds), Juron Adams (Jr.) of Tiospa Zina (24 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 93 steals), Ryan Wojik (Sr.) of St. Thomas More (13.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.12 steals), Tyler Prins (Sr.) of Sioux Falls Christian (14 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists), and Gray Imbery (Sr.) of Aberdeen Roncalli (18.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists).
Player of the Year: Paul Bruns of Dakota Valley.
Paul Bruns was first team in 2019 and 2020, Tash Lunday was second team in 2020, and Cael Lundin was third team in 2020.
CLASS AA
First team: Matthew Mors (Sr.) of Yankton (24.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.9 steals, 1.3 blocks), Caden Hinker (Jr.) of Mitchell (16.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5 assists), Micah Swallow (Sr.) of Rapid City Central (22.9 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.9 steals), Jackson Hilton (Sr.) of Brandon Valley (12.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.7 steals), Tyler Feldkamp (Sr.) of Sioux Falls Roosevelt (14 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists), and Eli Williams (Sr.) of Sioux Falls Washington (13 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists).

Player of the Year: Matthew Mors of Yankton.
Mors was on the first team in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and was second team in 2017, Feldkamp was on the first team in 2020. Hilton was on the second team in 2020.
