Central athletes compete at Howard Wood, O’Gorman invite

SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central’s Sam Rohlfs finished second in the long jump to highlight the Golden Eagles opening day of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls on Friday.

Rohlfs jumped 22-feet, 2 inches in the event.

Also the sprint medley relay team of Abigail Witte, Brooklyn Kusler, Abby Kopecky and Melanie Jacobs finished second in their heat.

Meanwhile at the O’Gorman Invitational, the Central girls won the 3,200-meter relay. Members were Zoe Douglas, Kaylie Peldo, Jordan Hermansen and Sadie Struble.

The Eagles also had a pair of second-place finishes in the boys’ division. Drew Salfrank was second in the 400-meter dash, and Isaac Ligon was second in the pole vault.

Aberdeen Christian also had one entry Friday at Howard Wood with its girls’ 3,200-meter relay team.

“They were a little disappointed at their race, a little slower than normal time,” said Christian coach David Rohrbach. “It was good experience though being here in a stage like Howard Wood, so that should help them going forward.”‘
