HURON – Aberdeen Central posted its lowest score of the season, but the competition was stiff during the Huron Invitational girls’ golf tournament on Thursday.
O’Gorman won the team title with Mitchell second. The Golden Eagles were sixth with a total of 348.
“I know we’ve been in the 350s all year, and then we break 350 and we end up in sixth place which is probably our worst finish this year,” said Central coach Kim Zimmerman. “So, we have our best score, but yet our worst finish.”
The scores were low as there were four golfers who shot a 74 or under, including medalist Reese Jansa of Harrisburg who carded a 70.
“There were some teams and some individuals today that posted pretty good scores that we haven’t seen yet this year,” Zimmerman said.
The Eagles need to tighten up their game a bit, according to Zimmerman.
“We’ll just have to kind of tidy up a few things here and there,” he said, noting that his team was only two strokes out of fourth place. “We just need to play a little bit better course-management wise and just not walk away thinking I left that many strokes out there that I could have saved.”
Danielle Podoll once again led Central with an 84.
“Danielle kind of struggled a little bit on the front nine and righted the ship on the back nine,” Zimmerman said. “She wasn’t the only one. There were some girls that we had today that posted some pretty good nine-hole scores. We just need to finish the round.”
The Eagles play in another tournament today in Yankton.
