YANKTON – A difficult course proved to be challenging for the Aberdeen Central golfers on Friday.

The Golden Eagles finished tied for fifth in team points and had one player in the top 20. O’Gorman, behind the medalist play of Shannon McCormick, won the team title.

“It was a struggle for most for the girls today. The bright spot was Olivia Braun,” said Central coach Kim Zimmerman of Central’s top finisher who was tied for tenth.

Zimmerman was impressed with Braun’s play on a difficult course she had not played before.

“She played it really well. Part of the key of playing the course that we did today is keeping the ball in play and if you don’t you’re going to struggle and if you do, you’re going to be able to score fairly well and that’s what she did,” Zimmerman said. “She’s been pretty consistent for us really. She’s learning along with getting some playing time and she’s performing really well for us.”

Zimmerman felt that his players rushed a few shots on the day, leading to their highest score of the season at 379.

“You spray it a little bit, you get a little quick on a lot of your shots. Courses are difficult. If you’re not playing well, it’s going to compound the problem,” he said. “We just kind of fall in a bad routine once in a while. I was a kind of disappointed in what our score was today. We just have to put this day behind us and move on.”

Central is idle until playing in a tournament in Mitchell on Friday. Zimmerman is hoping to have a productive week of practice to get back on track.

“We’re been practicing the range, and hitting pretty well on the range,” Zimmerman said. “Some how we need to take that game to the course.”
