WATERTOWN – The Aberdeen Christian boys’ golf squad received a big contribution from a newcomer to the varsity and finished second in the Pre-Region 1B meet on Monday.
Ellis Russell, an eighth-grader who has played on the junior varsity this spring, made his first varsity appearance a memorable one shooting a 103. The Knights had been unable to post a team score in previous events, because they did not have enough golfers.
Great Plains Lutheran won the boys’ title with a 247, while Christian took second with a 268.
Sam Hansen of GPL was the medalist with a 75. Jett Becker led the Knights with a 78 to finish runner-up. Zeke Becker was eighth with an 87.
“We had a pretty good day,” said Christian coach David Rohrbach. “Jett had a solid day for him and Zeke had a nice day as well. The surprise was our team took second.”
Taylor Koisti of Hamlin took medalist honors in the girls’ division to help lead the Chargers to the team title as well. Castlewood finished second.
