Milbank Area athletes lead four Class A events heading into the state track and field meet this weekend.
Nick Batchelor leads the 1,600-meter run, Bennett Schwenn leads the triple jump and both are members of the state leading sprint medley relay team. Meanwhile Greta Snaza continues to lead the pole vault.
Schwenn is also second in the 200 and third in the long jump. Batchelor is third in the 3,200 and both are part of the 1,600-meter relay team which has the second best time in the state.
Other top area boys include Ryker Trevett of Milbank Area who is second in the shot put, Sisseton’s Andrew Kranhold who is tied for second in the high jump, and Webster’s Drew Reetz who is second in the pole vault.
Hamlin tops a pair of individual events in the girls’ division. Gracelyn Leiseth has been among the elite throwers in the state this spring. She leads the discus and is second in the shot put. Her teammate Kami Wadsworth is third in both events. McKenna Prouty is tied for first in the high jump.
Other top area girls include seventh-grader Ashlynn Batchelor of Milbank Area who is second in the 3,200-meter run. Aberdeen Roncalli’s Morgan Fiedler is among the leaders in four events. The junior is seventh in the 100, sixth in the 200, sixth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump.
