No lead was safe during a high-scoring American Legion baseball twinbill at Fossum Field Friday night.

Mitchell swept past the Aberdeen Smittys by scores of 13-9 and 16-12.

The visitors built an 8-0 lead in the opener, before Aberdeen’s Brian Holmstrom belted a grand slam home run in in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead in half. Mitchell then tacked on five more runs in the top of the seventh, before the Smittys got five in the bottom of the frame, but it wasn’t enough.

Dylan Souek had three hits for Mitchell, while Seth Muth and Parker Bollinger each had two.

Holmstrom had two hits for the Smittys and finished with four RBI. Max Prehn drove in three and Austin Wagemann plated a pair.

It was more of the same in the second contest as Mitchell established a 15-4 advantage only to see the Smittys battle back. Aberdeen scored five times in the fourth inning (Brock Martin, Nick Clemens and Josh Steinwandt each drove in a run), twice in the fifth and once in the sixth.

Jonah Schmidt led Mitchell with three hits, while Dylan Soulek, Parker Bollinger, Jake Helleloid, Mason Garaets and Brock Sparks each had two hits.

Steinwandt powered the Smittys with three hits and also knocked in three. Prehn, Clemens and Martin each contributed two hits. Aiden McCafferty and Martin each drove in a pair.
