Smittys score late for victory in split with Brookings

BROOKINGS - The Aberdeen Smittys scored twice in the seventh inning of a 6-4 first game win before falling 20-0 in the second contest against Brookings in American Legion baseball action on Sunday. The Smittys were involved in a tight one in the opener. Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Aberdeen received run-scoring doubles from Nick Clemens and Matt Feiock to extend the margin to 4-1. However, the hosts rallied for two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game. Josh Steinwandt produced the game-winning run with an RBI-double in the top of the seventh and the Smittys tacked on one more run for the final margin of difference. Tyler Hoffman, Brock Martin, Clemens and Steinwandt each had two hits for the Smittys. Clemens drove in a pair. Hoffman, Aiden McCafferty and Clemens each scored twice. Brookings jumped all over the Smittys in the nightcap, exploding for a dozen runs in the first inning and eight more in the second. The hosts had a pair of home runs and three doubl
