
RENNER – The Aberdeen Smittys lost two games to Renner, despite outhitting the hosts in both contests in American Legion baseball action. Renner took the first game 10-8 and then walked-off the Smittys 17-16 thanks to seven runs in the seventh inning in the nightcap.
Aiden McCaffety had three hits (two home runs and a double), scored three times and knocked in three in the first contest to power the Smittys, who had five more hits than Renner. Brian Holmstrom, Josh Steinwandt and Matt Feiock each had a pair of hits for Aberdeen.
The Smittys had six more hits than their opponent in a wild second game. Aberdeen scored five times in the third inning when Tyler Hoffman homered, and then plated five more runs in the fourth inning to take a 13-9 lead. Feiock, Connor Kannas and Hoffman drove in runs to highlight that frame.
Aberdeen added three more runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 16-10, however it could not stop Renner, which exploded for seven runs in the seventh to win the game.
Hoffman led a 21-hit attack with four hits. He also knocked in three and scored three times. McCafferty had another big game with three hits, including a double and a home run, scored three runs and drove in three. Steinwandt finished with three hits, scored three runs and had two RBI. Feiock had three hits, drove in three and scored twice. Max Prehn and Kannas each collected two hits.
