Smittys edge Claremont on wild pitch

In a game that featured 26 combined strikeouts, the Aberdeen Smittys slipped past the Claremont Honkers 1-0 on a walk-off wild pitch in American Legion baseball action at Fossum Field Tuesday night.

Tyler Hoffman scored on the only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, coming in from third base on a wild pitch. Prior to that, he went from first to third on a passed ball.

It was a strikeout fest from the start. Will Cutler fanned 12 batters for Claremont in seven innings of work.

Meanwhile, a total of five Aberdeen pitchers combined to K 13 batters, led by Brian Holmstrom with six.

Aiden McCafferty had two of Aberdeen’s four hits, including a triple. Cutler had two of Claremont’s five hits, including a triple.

The Smittys will host Pierre at 6 this evening in their final home game of the season.
