VOLGA – The Aberdeen Roncalli golf squad got its season off to a solid start, finishing second at the Sioux Valley Invitational on Monday.

The Cavaliers had three of the top seven finishers, and placed five members in the top 14 en route to a team score of 333, 13 strokes off the pace of host Sioux Valley. Groton finished third.

Mason Carrels topped Roncalli with a fourth-place finish shooting a 79. Teammates Sawyer Henrich (83) and Finn Anderson (84) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

Lucas Daggett was 12th for the Cavaliers with an 87, while Andrew Gerlach was 14th with a 90.

Caleb Barse, the lone Tiospa Zina golfer in the event, took fifth with an 82. Groton’s Brevin Fliehs was eighth with an 85.
