Central boys’ soccer team scores 15 goals in win

RAPID CITY – Jelani Peters and Marcos Ramos Garcia scored four goals apiece as the Aberdeen Central boys’ soccer program routed Douglas/Rapid City Christian 15-0 in a time-shortened contest Saturday in Rapid City.

The Golden Eagles scored in the game’s first minute on a goal from Sekou Gogue. Peters then scored three of the next four goals, and Central never looked back.

“We connected well during the match,” said Central coach Steve Cogley. “We had several missed opportunities finishing goals between the third and 15th minute. That’s frustrating. I realize we scored plenty, but we can’t waste opportunities during games.”

Cogley was pleased, however, with the opportunity to play several younger players in a varsity level contest.

“Douglas is a growing program and their players worked hard,” he said. “We just played well overall, today.”

Central will be put to the test Thursday, taking on the state’s newest program in Sioux Falls Jefferson in Sioux Falls.

“(Jefferson) won (Friday) against a good Sioux Falls Roosevelt team,” Cogley said. “We will need to play well.”
