PRESS RELEASE
Collin Engstrom was announced today as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Northern State University Athletics by Interim Director of Athletics Terri Holmes. Engstrom joins the NSU staff after two years at The University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
“We are excited to welcome Collin to the department and our Wolves family,” explained Holmes. “Collin brings a wealth of experience, working with a variety of sports at some of the top Division I institutions in the country. He will build off the strong strength and conditioning department we have here at NSU and push our student-athletes to be the best versions of themselves.”
“I am fired up for this opportunity at NSU,” noted Engstrom. “I have been at some great places and I have seen athletic development done right and at a very high level. That is why I am very excited for this opportunity and to be able to bring my knowledge base to NSU and win championships!”
At UTC, Engstrom served as an Assistant Director of Athletic Performance where he was in charge of women’s soccer and track and field/cross country programs, while assisting with football. In addition, he was the Interim Head Football Athletic Performance Coach in the spring of 2021.
Prior to Chattanooga, Engstrom spent the 2018-19 academic year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Sacred Heart University. He was responsible for men’s basketball, baseball and women’s volleyball. In addition, Engstrom also assisted with football program on a daily basis and was part of the 2018 NEC Championship Team.
Engstrom spent the 2017-18 academic year at Yale University, serving as the Assistant Director of Football Sports Performance. At Yale, he helped train the squad that won the 2017 Ivy League Football Championship, as well as assisting with Yale men’s lacrosse that won the 2018 NCAA Division I National Championship. Engstrom also served as an Assistant Sports Performance Coach with the Yale weightlifting club.
Engstrom opened his collegiate coaching career at the University of Alabama from 2014-16. While at UA, he served as a Graduate Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Crimson Tide, while completing graduate research. Engstrom assisted with football, basketball, baseball, track and field, swimming/diving, rowing, volleyball, tennis and was in charge of men’s cheer; working with numerous Alabama swimming and track and field athletes that competed in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from East Carolina University in May 2014, where he was a member of the Kinesiology Club and the Buccaneer Weightlifting Club, and his Master of Arts in Human Performance from the University of Alabama in 2016.
Engstrom is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, a Certified Level-1 Olympic Weightlifting Coach through the USAW, Certified Exercise Physiologist through the ACSM and a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist through the NASM.
