PRESS RELEASE
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Stan Holt is the choice to lead the Men’s Basketball program at Presentation College.
Holt joins the Saints after stints with the Oklahoma City University Stars and Langston University Lions. With a career record of 114-53 and three national-tournament appearances over the past six seasons, Holt is poised to lead the Saints in a new direction.
“Coach Holt is a winner. We are thrilled to have him come to Aberdeen and join the Presentation family. Coach is dedicated to providing his student-athletes an all-around experience that focuses on academic excellence, community engagement, and a competitive season on the court,” said Daniel Garrett, Athletic Director at Presentation College.
Langston achieved national recognition under Holt’s direction. The Lions earned a No. 4 ranking in the NAIA National Poll and found consistent success with four consecutive 20-win seasons. Langston won the 2016 Red River Athletic Conference Tournament title with a 25-7 record. Additionally, Holt led the Lions to historic firsts with a trip to the 2017 NAIA Division I Championship Tournament quarterfinals and the program’s first NAIA Tournament victory, a 78-76 triumph over third-seeded Biola (Calif.) on March 15, 2017. Prior to Holt’s tenure, the Lions were 0-3 in national tournament play, but with Holt at the helm the Lions posted a 3-3 mark in the NAIA Tournament. Under his Coach Holt’s tutelage, Langston produced five all-Americans and 18 all-conference selections. Holt was named HoopDirt.com national coach of the week on three separate occasions.
“I want to thank Presentation College President Dr. Paula Langteau, VP Dr. Marcus Garstecki, and AD Daniel Garrett for the opportunity to lead the Men’s Basketball program. It is a privilege to be named head coach here at Presentation College, a wonderful place everyone can grow, learn, and realize their dreams. God works in mysterious ways, and I feel blessed to work at Presentation College. With hard work, dedication, and courage, I know we will build something truly special here at PC. In order to achieve great success, our program will partner with the local and campus community and foster genuine relationships. I look forward to serving our student-athletes, engaging with the great people of Aberdeen, connecting with alumni, entertaining our loyal fans, working in concert with our faculty and administration to provide a wonderful experience for everyone involved with Saints Men’s Basketball. I am excited to get to know everyone in the community—I cannot wait to meet everyone! I’m excited to get started and give the great people of Presentation College and the Aberdeen community a program they’re excited and proud to support,” said Holt.
Prior to his tenure at Langston, Holt worked for the men’s basketball program at the University of Southern California. During his time as a member of the staff at the USC, Holt had the distinct pleasure of contributing to the development of players such as future NBA players All-Star DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic and Taj Gibson. Additionally, he helped develop Daniel Hackett, who turned pro with CSKA Moscow of the Euroleague and former Pac-10 defensive player of the year Marcus Simmons, who is playing professionally overseas. While at USC, the Trojans experienced three straight winning seasons, won the Pac-10 Conference Tournament, and appeared in back-to-back NCAA tournaments.
In the summers of 2017 and 2018, Holt was a guest speaker and clinician at the prestigious Chantaloba basketball camp (co-owned by A2 president Fabio Manca) which is held annually on the outskirts of Torino, Italy. Coach Holt had the pleasure of working with legendary Italian coach, clinician, and author Bruno Boero.
Holt’s experience includes NCAA Division I, NAIA Division I, high school, and coaching elite level summer basketball camps. He has worked over 20 national elite basketball camps nationwide including the Kobe Bryant Academy, USC Elite Camp and the Nike Phenom 150 camp. In addition, he has worked as a private trainer/skills coach. Holt completed USA Basketball training and is currently licensed by the organization.
A native of Los Angeles, Holt earned his Master of Education in Post-Secondary Administration and Student Affairs with an emphasis in Athletic Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a business minor at the University of Southern California. Holt attributes much of his success to his mother, Rosanna, his family, loyal friends, and hard-working players and staff who have been extremely supportive throughout his life and career.
