Leaderboard crowded following opening round of state amateur

A trio of men are tied for first place, just one shot better than four other golfers following the opening round of the South Dakota Golf Association Amateur Championship at Moccasin Creek Country Club.

Jack Lundin of Sioux Falls, Jack Tanner of Brookings, and Will Grevlos of Sioux Falls each shot a one-under 71 on Friday. That trio owns a one-shot lead over Nick Lust of Rapid City, Russell Pick of Mitchell, and Hunter VanBorgen and Ryan Neff of Sioux Falls.

The best local score belonged to Lucas Schaefbauer and Chris Dohrer of Aberdeen who are both tied for 11th following rounds of one-over 73.

Meanwhile Alex Kandolin of Rapid City has bolted out to a three-stroke lead in the women’s division. She shot a two-under round of 70. State A champion Reece Jansa of Sioux Falls is in second after carding a 73.

The top Aberdeen golfer after the first round is Lani Potter with a 74.

Action resumes today and concludes on Sunday.
