HURON – Aberdeen Central picked up a pair of tennis victories during the Huron Quadrangular on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles blanked Huron 9-0, stopped Brandon Valley 7-2, and fell to Mitchell 7-2, against the Eastern South Dakota Conference foes.

Central players spent about 11 hours on the courts during their three duals.

“The story of the first two duals was the outstanding play of Julia Knie, who made her varsity debut filling in for Livia Douglas,” said Central coach John Vogel.

Knie claimed a 10-0 win against Huron and a 10-3 victory over an opponent from Brandon Valley. The freshman also teamed with Carly Comstock to pick up a pair of doubles wins as well.

While Central lost to Mitchell, Vogel pointed out the play of two players.

Emily Ringgenberg defeated Atlanta Stahle 10-8 at number one singles and then nearly grabbed a win at number one doubles with Alice Vogel, falling in a tie-breaker 7-5.

“Against a very good Mitchell team, I’m super proud of Emily’s win,” Coach Vogel said. “She beat the defending ESD champ, then her and Alice almost pulled off the win at one dubs after a very good doubles win against BV.”

The Eagles were involved in two other tie-breakers on the day.

Alice Vogel won a 7-3 breaker at number four singles against Brandon Valley, while Laney Gonsor and Charlee Galvin claimed a 7-5 tie-breaker win at number three doubles against the Lynx.

Gonsor went 5-1 on the day with three singles and two doubles victories.

“Laney Gonsor had a great day at flight five, going 3-0,” Coach Vogel said.

Central plays in a triangular at Madison on Tuesday along with Vermillion.
