Aberdeen Christian’s record-setting season produced another new mark on Tuesday night.

The Knights swept Britton-Hecla 25-20, 25-11, 25-22 in non-conference volleyball action at the Aberdeen Christian School Gym to give them their school-record 16th win in a single season.

“I couldn’t be prouder of these girls for that accomplishment,” said Christian coach Maggie Jett. “They have worked hard the last few years for me and the coaches and for each other. It’s a testament to the talent that’s in this group and getting them to believe they were capable of being a successful program.”

This season has already included record items such as being rated for the first time and also 12-match winning streak.

The Knights racked up 36 kills against Britton-Hecla, led by Hanna Miller with 11 and Mary Fites with 10.

While the Braves kept things close in the first and third sets, it was not enough to prevent Christian from recording the sweep.

“It’s always nice to get a win at home,” Jett said. “The girls played pretty consistent all night. I was happy the girls were able to try some new things on offense and I think our hitters just took it at them.”

Joy Rohrbach and Emily Schwan each had three aces to help power the Christian offense.

Rohrbach finished with 11 digs and Fites 10, while Grace Kaiser had two solo blocks and two assists.

“Defensively, we had a pretty good night not letting too much hit the floor and taking care of our passing,” Jett said.

Jenna Werner topped Britton-Hecla with five kills, an ace serve, four blocks and four digs.

Christian, 16-3 on the season, plays at Leola-Frederick on Thursday.

“Our focus has been one game at a time,” Jett said, “and they have done a nice job this season doing just that.”
