VERMILLION – Madison capped off an undefeated season by blanking Milbank Area 31-0 in the Class 11A football championship game Friday afternoon at the DakotaDome.

It marked the second time this season that Madison had won the battle of Bulldogs by shutout. The state champs defeated Milbank Area 9-0 in the regular season.

The contest marked the first time that somebody had scored on Milbank Area this post season.

While the overall yardage only favored Madison by about 60 total yards, Milbank Area was done in by four pass interceptions in the game.

Trey Smith, selected as the Game MVP, rushed for two touchdowns, kicked a 25-yard field goal, and also booted four extra points. He also racked up 13 tackles on defense.

Nate Ricke ran for one score and passed for another for Madison, which finished the year at 12-0.

Kaden Krause passed for 88 yards and had seven tackles for Milbank Area. Marshall Voeltz led the team in rushing with 49 yards.
