Warner sweeps past Edgemont to return to state tourney

HURON – Warner won its 16th consecutive match and punched its ticket to the State Volleyball Tournament with a 25-9, 25-7, 25-9 sweep over Edgemont in a Class B SoDak 16 match at the Huron Arena.

Ava Nilsson had 10 aces and 25 set assists for the Monarchs, who improved to 30-5 on the season. Courtney Bjorgaard had three aces as Warner racked up 22 aces as a team. Bjorgaard also had 16 digs.

Warner featured a balanced attack from the front row. Kyra Marcuson and Kami Anderson each finished with eight kills, while Jennifer Aman contributed six.

The Monarchs, who finished runner-up at last year’s state tourney, will enter this year’s state tournament in Rapid City as the second seed and face Aberdeen Christian in the opening round at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18.
