MITCHELL – Competing a bit short-handed Aberdeen Central still produced some solid results at the Jill McCormick Invitational gymnastics meet on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles finished eighth in team points with a score of 132.175.

Maggie Fites was eighth on the bars, while Masyn Schutter tied for 10th on the beam.

Central was battling illness and injury, had some girls competing at a different meet, while others were in a dance recital.

“Despite all of this, we perservered and had both Masyn and Maggie make the awards stand,” said Central coach Mickey Everson. “This just shows how mentally tough these girls are. Our score didn’t waver much and still saw some room for improvement.”

The Eagles had a solid performance on the beam, according to Everson.

“We stuck four out of five beam routines, which is an accomplishment,” she said. “One of these times all four events will come together for us at the same time.”

Saturday’s meet took place at the Corn Palace, site of this year’s Eastern South Dakota Conference meet and also the state meet in February.

“We usually compete at the high school,” Everson said of the Mitchell meet, “so this was a fun environment to be in.”

Central heads to Britton for another meet on Tuesday.
