RAPID CITY – The Aberdeen Cougars received goals from five different players on the way to a 5-0 girls’ hockey victory over the Rapid City Rushmore Saturday afternoon. Aberdeen is now 6-0 on the season.

Morgan Jones and Allie Woehl scored first-period goals to stake the Cougars to a 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, Ema Rehder, Aiden Raap and Madelynn Witte added third-period goals for the final margin of difference. Two of those goals came on assists from Kailyn Poppen.

“We got scoring from all three lines which was good,” said Cougars coach Rob Weinmeister, “but I didn’t think we really got into our normal flow during the game.”

Ellen Orr stopped all 29 shots in goal for the Cougars, who have now outscored their opponents 46-3 to start the season.

While the Cougars were able to pull away for the victory, they managed just seven more shots on goal than Rushmore.

“There were times we were moving the puck, but we need to create more quality scoring opportunities,” Weinmeister said. “We need to learn to play consistent hockey for 51 minutes.”

The same two teams are back at it again today.
