Golden Eagles take fifth at gymnastics invite

Aberdeen Central edged a tight pack of teams to grab fifth place at the Hub City Invitational gymnastics meet at Golden Eagles Arena on Saturday. The Eagles nipped Sioux Falls Roosevelt by less than half a point in the team standings. Mitchell won the team title. Milbank Area was eighth, Britton-Hecla was 11th and Sisseton finished 12th. "We edged a couple of Sioux Falls teams," said Central coach Mickey Everson. "Everybody that we were kind of thinking we were going to be neck and neck with we were, but we rose to the top of that little group that we’re all kind of similar, so that was exciting. I’m very happy with the score." The Eagles were led by Maggie Fites who took sixth on the bars on the way to a ninth-place finish in the all-around. Ashlyn Beyer was 10th in the vault.
