SIOUX FALLS – Freshman Carson Myhre exploded for four goals to help lead the Aberdeen Cougars to a 6-3 boys’ hockey victory over the Sioux Falls Flyers 2 squad on Saturday night.
Myhre scored twice in the first period and added two more goals in the third period to secure the win. Two of his goals were unassisted.
“Carson Myhre had an outstanding individual effort,” said Cougars coach Jeremey Backous. “One or two goals he just outraced the defensemen to the puck.”
Kasen Claymore and Jacob Scheel also found the back of the net for Aberdeen, while Dawson Hepper had a pair of assists.
“It was a fun game and a complete team effort,” Backous said.
The Cougars had 13 more shots on goal than Sioux Falls. While Aberdeen never trailed, the score was tied at 1-1 and 2-2 before the Cougars scored three straight goals to take control.
Aberdeen will face the other Sioux Falls squad today.
“We play Sioux Falls 1 and they’re currently unbeaten,” Backous said. “They’re going to be tough.”
