HURON – Aberdeen Christian scored 13 unanswered points in the third quarter on the way to a 52-44 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over James Valley Christian on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights trailed 34-30 early in the second half before the surge gave them a lead they never lost.

The hosts led at the half thanks in part to their three-point accuracy. The Vikings ended up making 10 three-pointers on the day.

“We knew they were going to be a good team,” said Knights coach David Rohrbach. “They have three guards who can really shoot it and a really solid post player.”

Christian was able to make a few defensive adjustments in the second half.

“The first half we didn’t get out on their shooters enough, but we made some adjustments that helped our girls slow them down,” Rohrbach said. “Our third quarter turned the game around, holding them to just six points.”

Aberdeen Christian also made an adjustment on offense that proved effective in the final two quarters.

“Offensively, it took us a bit to get good shots against their zone,” Rohrbach said, “but we figured it out in the second half and were able to get good looks with our high-low.”

Mallory Miller led the Knights with 17 points and Hanna Miller added a dozen.

Kaylie Robinson topped JVC with 12 points and Alexa Goertz followed with 11.
