WILMOT – Aberdeen Christian set the tone early with defense, followed that up with solid offense and rolled to its seventh straight boys’ basketball victory Friday night.
The fourth-rated Knights jumped out to a 19-6 lead en route to a 61-34 non-conference triumph over Wilmot.
“Our press kick-started us,” said Christian coach David Rohrbach. (Andrew) Brennan did a real nice job setting the tone for us in our full-court defense.”
Once the offense got going, the Knights featured a balanced scoring attack with five different players scoring at least seven points.
“I thought our guys did a good job of sharing the ball tonight offensively, and getting out and running,” Rohrbach said. “Defensively, when we’re getting stops and using that to set up our offense we are effective. I thought we had a nice balance of inside-out action as well.”
Jackson Isakson finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the contest. Malek Wieker contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Joey Johnson added eight points, while Andrew Brennan and Ethan Russell each tossed in seven. Russell led the squad with nine rebounds.
Trey Jurgens powered Wilmot with 17 points.
Christian, 11-2 on the season, plays at North Central on Tuesday.
