GROTON – Aberdeen Christian won its fifth road game of the season Tuesday night with pin-point passing to fuel a 55-38 non-confence girls’ basketball victory over Groton.

The third-rated Knights jumped in front early and worked for high-percentage looks, both inside and outside.

“This was definitely our best game of the year,” said Christian coach Michael Rohrbach. “We moved the ball really well and got great shots.”

The coach credited guards Hanna Miller and Joy Rohrbach for their roles in igniting the offense.

“Hanna and Joy set the tone with their passing and getting everyone involved,” Rohrbach said, “and when we do that, the sky is the limit for this team.”

Mallory Miller set the tone early with 16 of her 18 points in the opening half. Kaylee Block also nailed a couple of three-pointers in the opening 16 minutes as the Knights built a 21-point halftime advantage.

“Kaylee really opened things up for us with her shot. She’s a great shooter who can fill it up from deep,” Coach Rohrbach said. “They doubled-teamed Mallory most of the game, but because of our player and ball movement we were able to get her the ball in good spots, and when we do that she’s extremely tough to stop.”

Each team made seven three-point field goals in the contest. Block had three and Chloe Holt two for the Knights, while Groton’s Allyssa Locke had four to account for all 12 of her points to lead the Tigers.

Christian was able to contain Groton scoring leader Gracie Traphagen, holding her to five points.

“Groton is a tough team and Traphagen is a good player,” Coach Rohrbach said, “but Grace (Kaiser) and Joy did an excellent job defending her, and our other girls hedged screens and ran their other shooters off the three-point line.”

Block finished with 11 points for the Knights, Joy Rohrbach and Hanna Miller each had seven, and Holt and Kaiser each added six.

“It was a collective effort both offensively and defensively,” Coach Rohrbach said, “and I’m just super proud of how we played.”
