Potter County boys just outside of top five in latest poll

Potter County’s Seth Sharp, center, goes up with a shot between Aberdeen Christian’s Ethan Russell, left and Kaden Clark, right, during a game earlier this season at the Aberdeen Christian School gym. Looking on are the Battlers’ Cooper Logan (0) and Grant Luikens (23). At far right for the Knights is Jackson Isakson (2). The Knights are fourth in the Class B poll, while the Battlers are just outside of the top five. Photo by John Davis taken 1/15/2022

There was very little movement in this week’s high school basketball polls.

The top three teams in all six polls remained the same from a week ago after three top-rated teams won their matchups with second-rated teams last week.

Potter County is on the verge of cracking the top five in Class B boys following a win over Hanson at the Corn Palace on Saturday. The Battlers are 8-1 on the season.

The Aberdeen Roncalli girls remained number one in Class B girls with Aberdeen Christian staying third. Both have road challenges this evening as Roncalli plays at Hamlin (receiving votes in Class A), while the Knights play at Herreid-Selby Area, winners of seven straight.

The Aberdeen Christian boys remained third in Class B boys.

Aberdeen Central fell out of the top five in Class AA boys following back-to-back setbacks last week. The Golden Eagles travel to Pierre tonight to the face the Governors, coached by former Central multi-sport standout Brianna Kusler.

The South Dakota Prep Media Basketball Poll for the week of Jan. 24 is listed below, ranking the top-five teams, the team’s record, points received and ranking in the previous poll. First-place votes are listed in parentheses.
