SELBY – Herreid-Selby Area extended its winning streak to eight straight games, while snapping third-rated Aberdeen Christian’s 10-game winning steak Tuesday night.

The Wolverines broke open a tight game in the second quarter and played with a double-digit lead down the stretch in a 54-36 non-conference girls’ basketball victory.

“Herreid-Selby is a good team, extremely well-coached, and they came prepared,” said Christian coach Michael Rohrbach.

The hosts got after the Knights defensively. While Mallory Miller scored a game-high 25 points, the Wolverines held the rest of the squad to just 11 points and pressured Christian into numerous turnovers.

“We knew their press was going to be tough with Joy (Rohrbach) out,” Coach Rohrbach said, “but they also face-guarded Hanna (Miller) and double-teamed Mallory.”

Mallory Miller also hauled down a dozen rebounds and nailed three three-point field goals.

“She kept us in the game while they made it tough for us to get into any kind of offense,” Coach Rohrbach said. “Ultimately, we just turned it over too much, didn’t hit our shots and they shot really well. But I was proud of the girls’ effort. They played hard and battled til the end.”

Kendell Sawinsky scored 20 points to top the Wolverines, who improved to 9-3 on the season. Jennica Berens followed with 11 points, and Jada Rossow contributed nine rebounds and nine rebounds.

Christian, 10-1 on the season, plays at Wilmot on Friday before heading to another road game at Arlington on Saturday.
