Cougars double up Oahe for girls win

FORT PIERRE - The Aberdeen Cougars scored a pair of second-period goals and their defense held up for a 2-1 girls' hockey win over the Oahe Capitals Saturday night. Aiden Raap scored Aberdeen's first goal and assisted on the other, a goal by Alyssa Roehrich. Reece Ermer assisted on both goals. Madelynn Witte had an assist on the Rapp goal as well. Cougars coach Rob Weinmeister said his team had a hard time generating offense against Oahe. "The ice was slow due to lots of games and we had to work hard to get scoring opportunities," he said. "We had times of good offensive zone presence, but were not able to create any shots on net." The Cougars outshot the hosts 25-17 in the contest. Oahe cut the margin to a single goal with just under seven minutes remaining, but could not get the equalizer down the stretch.
