Northern men lose to Upper Iowa at NSIC tourney

SIOUX FALLS – There will be a new Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s basketball tournament champion for the first time since 2017 after Northern State fell to Upper Iowa 89-80 in the quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon.

The Wolves trailed by just one point at halftime before Upper Iowa quickly built a lead it maintained the rest of the way.

Kailleb Walton-Blanden scored a career-high 20 points to lead four players in double-figure scoring for Northern, which had won the past four NSIC tournament titles.

Jordan Belka and Sam Masten each scored 14 points, and Jacksen Moni added 10.
