There are many familiar names among the all-state girls’ basketball players announced today by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

Included on the squads are three players from Aberdeen.

Roncalli’s Madelyn Bragg is a Class B first-team member, while Aberdeen Christian’s Mallory Miller and Roncalli’s Morgan Fiedler are on the second team.

Class B third-team selections include Isabel Aesoph of Faulkton, and Kendell Sawinsky of Herreid-Selby Area.

Hamlin’s Kami Wadsworth is a first-team member in Class A.

Here is a look at each of the area honorees, followed by a complete list of all the teams in each of the three classes.

Madelyn Bragg, Aberdeen Roncalli: This 6-foot-2 senior averaged 15.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers this past season.

“Defensively, she just causes a lot of problems, because she interrupts so many shots,” said Roncalli coach Derek Larson. “She doesn’t block all the shots, but alters more shots than we can count.”

Bragg finished her career as Roncalli’s fourth all-time leading scorer.

“Offensively, she’s been a dominant post player for us over the last three years,” Larson said.

Mallory Miller, Aberdeen Christian: At 6-foot-4, this junior was a dominant force in the lane for the Knights on both ends of the floor. Miller averaged 19.5 points and 13.2 rebounds per game and had 68 blocked shots.

Miller set new Christian school records for points, rebounds and blocks in a single season.

“She is a special player who can do a lot on the basketball floor,” said Christian coach Michael Rohrbach. “To be 6’4” and run the floor like she does, shoot it from outside, as well as score inside is pretty special. Defensively, she also changes a game with her shot blocking and rebounding ability.”

Morgan Fiedler, Aberdeen Roncalli: This senior point guard did a little bit of everything for the Cavaliers. Fiedler averaged 12.3 points and 4 rebounds per game and was also a standout defensive player.

“She was always up to guard one of the other’s teams best players just getting into people on the defensive end,” said Roncalli coach Derek Larson. “She didn’t allow too many people to score on her.”

The multi-sport standout used her quickness to also cause issues for opponents on offense.

“Offensively, it was really hard for people to stay in front of her with her speed and athleticism,” Larson said.

Isabel Aesoph, Faulkton: Aesoph was a factor on both sides of the ball for the Trojans. The senior guard averaged 18.7 points and 5 rebounds per game and finished with 56 steals.

“Isabel is one of the toughest competitors I’ve had the pleasure of coaching. She is a tremendous leader, and has meant so much to our program throughout her career,” said Faulkton coach Chase Casper. “Her concentration, body-control, and shot-making ability made her a dangerous offensive threat from anywhere on the court. Opponents keyed in on her and she still produced large numbers night in and night out.”

Kendell Sawinsky, Herreid-Selby Area: Sawinsky was a major factor on both offense and defense for the Wolverines. The senior guard averaged 17.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and produced 56 steals this past season.

“Kendell is the true personification of hard work paying off.  She is very self-motivated and has consistently put in the work both in the gym and in the weight room to continually improve as a basketball player,” said Herreid-Selby Area coach Steve Sawinsky. “She was part of a great group of senior leaders for us this year, leading by example. Above all else, she was an excellent teammate.”

Kami Wadsworth, Hamlin: Just a junior, Wadsworth averaged 21.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game to help lead the Chargers to a runner-up finish at the State A tournament.

“She is always willing to make the extra pass to give her teammates open shots. It seemed like no matter what defensive scheme other teams tried, Kami always found a way to score,” said Hamlin coach Tim Koisti. “She is a difficult matchup because of her inside and outside abilities. She can score in the paint with power and she can shoot the 3 like a shooting guard.”
