SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central fell behind early and had its girls’ basketball season come to a close in a 70-39 non-conference setback to Sioux Falls Roosevelt Monday night.

As they had all season, turnovers once again hurt the Golden Eagles and set the tone for the evening.

“Our first three possessions were turnovers,” said Central coach Mikayla Arechigo. “It’s tough to establish an offensive flow when that happens.”

The Rough Riders jumped out to an eight-point advantage in the opening eight minutes, and they gradually extended the margin throughout the contest.

Roosevelt connected on 10 three-point field goals and outscored Central 30-0 from beyond the arch.

“They shot well,” Arechigo said, “but part of that has to do with us playing under screens on shooters and being a step behind on rotations.”

The Riders were 5 for 11 on threes in both halves, finishing the night by shooting 46 percent from three-point range.

“It was their Senior Night and they came ready to play,” Arechigo said.

Kaela Martinez scored 28 points to lead Roosevelt, which clinched the final SoDak 16 spot with the victory.

Taryn Hermansen had 11 points, Taryn Hettich nine and Kiana Mounga eight to pace the Eagles.

Central finished the year at 3-17.

“It’s always tough to the end the season,” Arechigo said, “especially this way.”
