WATERTOWN – Aberdeen Central set a new record in the boys’ sprint medley relay during the Watoma Relays on Friday. The squad of Gabe Johnson, Carter Dingman, Drew Salfrank and Josh Martin clocked a time of 3:37.38 in the event.

The victory was one of six event wins on the day for the Golden Eagles, three of which involved Martin.

The senior also won the 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run.

Jacob Merxbauer won the triple jump, and Central also won the 1,600-meter relay. Members of that team included Aiden Heimann, Johnson, Dingman and Salfrank.

Merxbauer was also second in the 200, while Heimann was second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

“We had a great day in Watertown despite the gloomy weather,” said Central boys’ coach Greg Murley. “We had a solid number of placers and personal bests.”

Central’s girls were led by Ciara Frank who won the both the high jump and long jump.

“She performed well,” said Central girls’ coach Jim Appl. “The whole team showed improvement which was a bonus in drizzle and fog all day.”

Taryn Hermansen finished second in the shot put. Other top place winners were Gracie Rife who was third in the 100-meter dash, Eme Mounga who was third in the 400-meter dash, and Ashlyn Beyer in the pole vault.

Hamlin, Milbank Area and Webster also competed in the meet.

Milbank Area’s Nick Batchelor won the 800-meter run, while Bennett Schwenn won the long jump and triple jump, and Max Lightfield won the 110-meter high hurdles on the boys’ side and Siera Wenzl won the 200-meter dash for the girls.

The Hamlin boys received a first place finish from Xander Sheehan in the javelin and the 400-meter relay team. Gracelynn Leiseth won the shot put and discus, Zoie Fraser the 400-meter dash, and Kami Wadsworth the javelin for the Chargers’ girls.

The Webster boys had two first place finishes as Gavin Witt won the 400, and Drew Reetz won the pole vault.

Central will host its own invitational next Saturday at Swisher Field. Other teams scheduled to compete include Pierre, Mitchell, Minot, N.D., and Watertown.
