The Groton girls’ 1,600-meter relay team has moved into the Class A track and field leaders this week.
The squad comprised of Jerica Locke, Kennedy Hanson, Kelly Tracy and Laila Roberts clocked a time of 4:18.31 at last week’s Region 1A meet. The time is currently eighth in Class A.
Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth broke her previous state record in the shot put at that region with a throw of 49-feet, 3 1/4-inches. She is also second in the discus. Teammate Kami Wadsworth is third in both throws.
Among the other area leaders are Ashlynn Batchelor of Milbank Area who is third in the 1,600, Heidi Olson of Mobridge-Pollock who is seventh in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200, and Milbank Area’s Jacy Dexter who is fourth in the pole vault. Erin Case and Emily Richie of Webster are tied for seventh in the pole vault. Camryn Rohlfs of Redfield is eighth in the long jump, and Groton’s Aspen Johnson is tied for eighth in the triple jump.
On the boys’ side, the Milbank Area 1,600-meter relay team lowered its class leading time during the Region 1A meet. Members are Kaden Krause, Nick Batchelor, Garrett Mertens and Bennett Schwenn.
Schwenn also leads the triple jump, is second in the long jump and fourth in the 200. Batchelor is second in the 800 and 3,200 and third in the 1,600.
Ryker Trevett of Milbank Area is fifth in the shot put. Webster’s Tayne Dunse is fifth in the pole vault and seventh in the 300 hurdles. Hamlin’s Luke Fraser moved into fourth in the 400 following the Region 1A meet, while Jaydon Keller of Webster jumped to sixth in the triple jump with his mark at the same region.
Brady Bauer of Mobridge-Pollock is fifth in the 400 and seventh in the 100.
