Class AA Track and Field leaders

An Aberdeen Central boys’ thrower and a girls’ relay team moved up the ladder during the final edition of the weekly Class AA track and field leaders.

Brady Rohrbach cracked the top eight following his throw this past week at the Mark Wendelgass Relays in Huron. Rohrbach’s throw of 50-feet 7 1/4-inches is the eighth best throw in the class heading into today’s state meet in Sioux Falls.

Meanwhile, the girls’ 400-meter relay squad also moved into the AA leaders after clocking a time of :50.91 last week in Huron. Team members are Abigail Witte, Claire Schaunaman, Ayrlie Waldo and Gracie Rife.

Sam Rohlfs continues to lead the long jump and triple jump. Earlier this spring, Rohlfs set the all-time state record in the long jump of 24-feet 3/4-inch, also at a meet in Huron. He is also third in the 200.

Josh Martin has the second best time in the 3,200, and third best times in the 800 and 1,600. Aiden Heimann is third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and fourth in the 110-meter high hurdes. Jacob Merxbauer is third in the triple jump, while Drew Salfrank is fifth in the 400. Isaac Ligon is tied for sixth in the pole vault.

Ciara Frank continues to be among the statewide leaders in a pair of jumps. Frank is third in the high jump and eighth in the long jump. Taryn Hermansen is fourth in the shot put.

Grace Kuch is tied for eighth in the discus, while Abby Berry is just outside the top eight after recording the ninth best attempt in the javelin last week in Huron.
