SIOUX FALLS – Milbank Area’s Bennett Schwenn topped the field in the triple jump, while the Potter County girls won the Class B 1,600-meter relay during the final day of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays Saturday.

Schwenn jumped 45-feet 5-inches to win the triple jump. He also ran on a sprint medley relay team that finished second in Class A and also the 1,600-meter relay team that finished runner-up.

Potter County took the mile relay in a time of 4:17.31. Members were Kirstie Lake, Royel Persoon, Dannika Kaup and Emma Schlachter.

Other area relay squads that placed high included the Frederick boys who were second in the Class B 1,600-meter relay, the Ipswich boys who were second in the 400-meter relay, the Potter County girls who were third in the Class B medley, and the Mobridge-Pollock girls who finished third in the Class A medley.

Aberdeen Central was led by Jacob Merxbauer who was third in the triple jump and Josh Martin who was third in the 1,600-meter run. The Golden Eagles were also third in the Class AA medley relay and seventh in the 1,600-meter relay.

“We ran well for the windy conditions,” said Central boys’ coach Greg Murley.

The Golden Eagles are off until the end of the week when they will compete in the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet Saturday in Yankton. The Central boys are the defending ESD champs.

“We will show up and give it our best shot,” Murley said.
