ST. CLOUD – St. Cloud snapped the Aberdeen Wings’ five-game winning streak and evened their NAHL hockey Central Division championship series at a game apiece with a 6-2 victory Saturday night.
The Norsemen never trailed in the contest, outshooting Aberdeen 15-6 in the opening period when they scored a pair of goals.
Aberdeen cut the deficit in the second period on a goal by Ronan Walsh, but the hosts answered back just 30 seconds later to regain the two-goal margin.
The Wings again sliced the margin to one early in the third period on a goal by Owen DuBois, but Aberdeen could never get over the hump. The Norsemen scored two more goals in less than a minute in the middle of the period before adding an empty-netter for the final margin of difference.
The decision marked Aberdeen’s first road playoff loss in four games this post season.
The series now shifts to the Odde Ice Center for games three and four on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop is set for 7:15 p.m. If a game five is necessary, it would take place on Monday, May 16, back in St. Cloud.
