SIOUX FALLS – The Winner-Colome Royals solved the Redfield riddle on Tuesday afternoon.
Winner-Colome knocked off the previously unbeaten Muskrats 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the State B High School Baseball Tournament at Ronken Field on the campus of Augustana University.
Eathan Bartels allowed a pair of first-inning runs to Redfield, but then settled down after that and pitched six scoreless innings for Winner-Colome.
The Muskrats took the lead when Peyton Osborn produced an RBI single and then scored on an error. However, Redfield was unable to scratch any more runs across the plate.
Meanwhile, Winner-Colome chipped away at the Redfield lead.
The Royals scored once in the second and once in the third, the latter coming on an RBI double by Aiden Barfuss.
Winner-Colome then took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Bartels beat out an infield hit with the bases loaded to drive in another run.
The Royals added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the six, one coming on another Barfuss double.
Bartels and Barfuss both finished with three hits and drove in a pair to lead the victory. Winner-Colome catcher Charley Pravacek gunned down two runners trying to steal and also picked off another run at first base.
Camden Osborn had two hits to lead the Muskrats, who ended the year with a 15-1 record.
