SIOUX FALLS – The Aberdeen Swim Club wrapped up its summer season with six individuals winning state championships, some with multiple victories, on the way to finishing third in team points during the annual South Dakota Long Course Championships over the weekend in Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls won the team title with Watertown second. Webster was 16th and Miller finished 18th.

State champions for the Stingrays included Jackson Borchers, Joe Grebner, Lilly Grebner, Gena Jorgenson, Pierson Schaeffer and Ryan Schmidt.

First-year coach Neil Romney talked about the meet.

“Because of my brief tenure here, I didn’t know what to expect going into the meet,” Romney said. “Some of our athletes (pleasantly) surprised me with their competitive fire and their ability to elevate their performance accordingly.”

Romney said “other highlights were our team spirit and high level of enthusiasm throughout the three-day meet, the way our athletes celebrated their teammates following successful swims and supported them following disappointing swims, and our coaches’ desire to be present for the meet (all of our regular summer-season coaches were at the meet) and each coach’s ability to contribute in his or her unique way to the team’s overall success.”

Aberdeen won the team spirit award.

ASC had a half dozen top-three high-point scorers in Grace Mayer, Jackson Borchers, Ryan Schmidt, Joe Grebner, Gena Jorgenson and Lilly Grebner.
