PIERRE – The Aberdeen Central boys’ soccer squad found some offense and found its way back into the win column Tuesday evening.

The Golden Eagles, who had gone their previous two games without scoring, found the back of the net twice in the opening half on the way to a 2-1 victory over Pierre.

“It was good to finally score,” said Central coach Lance Mohr.

Jordan Grieben had a role in both goals for Central. He scored on a corner kick 10 minutes into the contest, and then assisted on a goal by Isaac Stockert in the 32nd minute.

The second goal broke a 1-1 tie as the Governors scored in the 19th minute of the opening half.

The two teams battled to a scoreless second half as Central picked up the solid road win.

“We played through a game with a lot of adversity and hung on,” Mohr said. “It’s a tough place to go and get a result on a Tuesday.”

The Eagles were once again solid defensively. The squad has only allowed two goals in the past four games.

“I thought Derek Arunasalam had a really big game defensively,” Mohr said.

Central, 3-1-1 on the season, returns home to face unbeaten Huron on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Brownell Activities Complex. The Tigers are 3-0-1 on the year.
