PIERRE – Aberdeen Central rolled through a pair of Rapid City tennis opponents without dropping a match during the second day of the West River Invitational in Pierre on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles blanked Rapid City Central and Rapid City Christian 9-0 to improve to 3-1 on the young season.

“We’re really pleased how the weekend turned out,” said Central coach John Vogel.

While Central won all of its matches, there was a bit of drama during one of them.

Laney Gonsor got stung multiple times by a wasp during her doubles match.

“It got caught in her hair and when they were trying to get it out, it got her three times,” Vogel said, adding that once play resumed, Gonsor and her partner Reece Comstock continued on the way to a 10-0 victory.

Vogel also pointed out the serving of Alice Vogel in a singles victory at flight two, noting she did not have a single double fault, which includes going for big serves on her second serve.

“I think she played about as good as I’ve ever seen her play,” Coach Vogel said.

He said that Livia Douglas continues to make noticeable improvements to her overall game.

“Livia Douglas played really good down the stretch. I’m asking a big thing of her to kind of change her game,” Coach Vogel said. “I challenged her and she’s accepting that challenge pretty good. She was going for a more offensive game.”

The Eagles now have a few days off before another busy weekend ahead. The squad heads to Sioux Falls where it will face Jefferson, Washington and O’Gorman on Friday, before meeting Roosevelt and Lincoln on Saturday.
