The Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles dropped a tight battle with the Huron Tigers by a score of 1-0 on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in the second half.

The two teams played an even first half with neither creating many legitimate goal-scoring opportunities
and sharing a near equal amount of possession. The two best chances from the first half came from the
unbeaten Tigers when Sha Sher’s long-range effort deflected off the top right corner of the post, and Biat Say forced a save from Central goalkeeper Camden Fauth in the final minute of the half.

“I felt like we defended a little bit too much and didn’t attack or get into the flow of the game,” said
Central coach Lance Mohr of his squad’s first-half performance.

Control of the ball remained similar between the two teams in the second half, but the Eagles registered
two shots on goal compared to none from Huron. The Tigers had a goal ruled out for offside as Central’s
defense maintained its shape and Say ventured into an offside position before scoring.

The Eagles gained momentum with 10 minutes left in the game as Sekou Gogue forced a diving save
from a left-footed strike and later earned one of Central’s three corners of the game with six minutes
remaining.

However, Huron took control of the game when a shot deflected off Central defender Jack Riggs and
rolled across the penalty box with both Fauth and Say chasing after the ball trying to claim possession.
The officials ruled that Fauth tripped Say and awarded a penalty kick to the Tigers.

Huron sophomore Moo Gay scored from the penalty spot in the 77th minute, giving the Tigers the late
road win.

“I thought we won the second half and I thought we lost the first half, and anytime that happens, that’s
when you see these tight results and one instance like (the penalty) at the end sways the game,” Mohr said.

Central, 3-2-1 on the season, will look to bounce back as the Eagles travel southeast for a road matchup with the Brandon Valley Lynx this Saturday at noon.

“We’re looking for a response,” Mohr said. “We’re getting a chip on our shoulder from feeling like we got a bad break. We need to figure out a way to create some more chances and get more momentum so we spend a little bit less time defending.”
