Renner wins pair of games at State A amateur tourney

The Renner Monarchs collected a pair of dominant victories during the State A Amateur Baseball Tournament at Fossum Field on Saturday. Renner set the tone for the day by scoring 12 runs in the top of the first inning of a 13-0 win over the Black Hills A's. The Monarchs then rolled past the Brookings Cubs 11-0. Tom Sun allowed just two hits in the victory over Brookings, striking out nine batters in the seven-inning contest. "Just trust my teammates and throw in the zone," said the 21-year-old pitcher from Beijing, China. The Monarchs scored seven runs in the second inning to grab an eight-run lead. Ben Ihrke and David Borchardt each had two-run singles before Ryan Hamilton belted a three-run homer over the leftfield fence. That gave Sun all the breathing room he needed. "When my teammates hit some runs for me, I feel like it’s really easy to pitch some strikes and get loose on the mound," Sun said. Sun will be a junior at Augustana this upcoming season. He is in
