BROOKINGS – While Aberdeen Roncalli dropped a pair of tennis duals, the Cavaliers made some noise during the Brookings Jamboree on Saturday.

The Cavaliers lost to Yankton 9-0 before being edged by Brookings 5-4. Roncalli had a strong performance in doubles in both duals.

“Doubles was our strength as we lost two good battles with Yankton and then turned it around to get a good win at number three and a decisive win at number two (against Brookings),” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell.

The flight two doubles team of Katherine Kretchman and River Haskell fell to Yankton 10-7 and then stormed past Brookings 10-1. The flight three doubles squad of Raley Haskell and Anna Mitzel lost to Yankton 10-4 before recording a 10-7 win over Brookings.

“I was really impressed with my number two doubles as they lost a hard-fought battle to Yankton,” coach Haskell said.

River Haskell had a big day, scoring a 10-1 win in her flight three singles match against Brookings.

“My standout match of the day was River as she just blew threw her singles match with Brookings,” Coach Haskell said. “She was really moving her feet and taking the ball early and went on to a 10-1 decisive win.”

Overall, coach Haskell said it was solid effort from his players.

“It was a great day of tennis all-around,” he said. “I still see progress and the girls are really enjoying the season so far.”

The Cavaliers have their home opener on Tuesday taking on Milbank Area at 4 p.m.
