SIOUX FALLS – The Aberdeen Central boys’ soccer team came up with another defensive gem and provided plenty of offense to go along with it Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles scored a trio of goals in the opening half on the way to a 3-0 victory over Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

“We have been tweaking and changing the lineup to continue to find and build rhythm on the field,” said Central coach Lance Mohr. “Tonight was as close as we’ve been to finding that gear.”

The Eagles exploded for three goals in 10 minutes to take control.

Derek Arunasalam started the surge with a goal on an assist from Sekou Gogue in the 28th minute. Gabe Johnson added another goal on an assist from Tyler Bain two minutes later. Johnson then found the back of the net again in the 38th minute on an assist from Pablo Belaunde Ledezma.

Meanwhile, the Central defense was once again up to the task. The Eagles, who shut out Brandon Valley last weekend, have now blanked three foes this season.

Roosevelt managed just three shots on goal against Central.

“Defensively, we prevented them from creating any really dangerous opportunities which was a huge plus,” Mohr said. “Offensively, once we found the net, it gave us a little momentum to finish the game.”

Central improved to 5-2-1 on the season. The Eagles host Harrisburg at noon Saturday at Brownell Activities Complex.
