STURGIS – The Aberdeen Central volleyball program completed its weekend sweep of West River squads with a three-set victory over Sturgis Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles won the non-conference match by set scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-19.
The win moves Central to 5-2 on the season after a pair of non-conference weekend victories.
“It was nice to go out west and try a few new things,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel.
After a balanced offensive attack in a win over Spearfish on Friday, Central got a big effort at the net from senior Grace Kuch on Saturday. Kuch finished with 12 kills, a block and two digs.
The Golden Eagles backed that up with eight kills from Leah Gough, five from Lauryn Burckhard and four from Ashley Wangler.
Sydney Evans had 12 digs, two kills, an assist and a service ace in her second match back from concussion protocol.
“We had a good presence from our middles,” Bindenagel said. “We need to continue to work on finding a good rhythm with our setters and hitters. The kids know that’s a process, so we’re glad to have a few more days to get ready for our first Sioux Falls schools later this week.”
Central will host Sioux Falls Lincoln Thursday in the first of three matches in less than a week. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Golden Eagles Arena.
