Central gets back in win column against Spearfish

SPEARFISH – The Aberdeen Central volleyball program snapped a small two-match skid with a sweep of Spearfish Friday night. The Golden Eagles won the non-conference match by set scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-19.

Central welcomed senior Libero Sydney Evans back to the lineup. Evans missed one match while in concussion protocol, but was brilliant in her return to the court. The senior led an aggressive service effort for the Golden Eagles, finishing with five aces and 19 digs.

Meanwhile, Central’s front line turned in a balanced offensive effort with four players accounting for 26 of the team’s 31 kills. Lauryn Burckhard and Leah Gough finished with seven kills each, while Grace Kuch and Ashley Wangler had six each.

Arylie Waldo notched 22 assists, as the Golden Eagles dispatched their first of two West River opponents on the weekend.

Now 4-2 overall, the Central will face Sturgis today to wrap up the road trip before returning home to face Sioux Falls Lincoln on Thursday.

Setting: Aberdeen Central 68-68 22 assists (Ayrlie Waldo 63-63 22 assists).

Digs: Aberdeen Central 43 (Evans 19, Anna Malchow 7, Bahr 7).
